Known Issue
When students attempt to access an Honorlock-enabled exam, Blackboard may display a 'School not found' error, and the exam will not load:
This error indicates a problem with the Blackboard-Honorlock integration, which may have been caused by the way that Honorlock and the exam were set up in the course. Students should inform their instructor about the error, and may share a link to this article to ensure that the problem is resolved quickly.
Explanation + Resolution
When an Honorlock-enabled exam is copied from one course to another, Blackboard only copies the exam's questions and its settings (e.g.; a requirement to use Honorlock). It does not copy over or enable the Honorlock tool in the new course. If an exam that requires students to use Honorlock is copied into a course where the Honorlock tool has not been enabled, Blackboard will produce an error when students try to take that exam.
It is best to enable the Honorlock tool in the new course before copying any Honorlock-enabled assessments into it — but if the assessments were copied first, you can still enable the tool afterward.
To resolve the problem, instructors can:
- Log in to Blackboard and navigate to the desired Bb course site.
- In the menu on the right, under 'Books & Tools', click 'View course & institution tools'.
- This will open a small menu with a list of the Bb tools/integrations. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and click 'Browse all course tools'.
- On the next page, locate 'Honorlock Exam List' but do not click on its main button! Instead, you will need to click the small '+' button in the bottom-right corner of the big Honorlock button.
- This will add an 'Honorlock Exam List' link near the bottom of your course's main Content page.
- Click on that new 'Honorlock Exam List' link. It should open a page where you can see a list of all of the exams in your course, along with information about which exams have Honorlock requirements. If you see the message "Warning: Exam enabled in Blackboard Ultra Proctoring but not in Honorlock", you will need to re-enable Honorlock for that exam. To do that, click on the blue 'Enable' button for the desired test, then select the desired Honorlock options to finish setting it up.
- Save your changes, and the exam should be ready! If you return to the Honorlock Exam List, the test should no longer have the warning message.
- Optional: Now, you can confirm that the Honorlock integration is working correctly for a specific exam. First, make sure that you are using the Chrome browser, and that you have installed the Honorlock plugin.
- Using Chrome with the Honorlock plugin: Inside of the Blackboard course, scroll up to the top of the page and click 'Student Preview'. In this mode, you can access the exam like a student would. Locate the exam and click on its title to open it. After it finishes loading, you should be brought to the Honorlock proctoring agreement page — if so, that means that the exam and Honorlock have been set up correctly, and they are now ready for students. You can scroll back up to the top and exit Student Preview mode.
- If you still see the 'School not found' error, you will need to:
- Exit Student Preview mode (using the button in the top-right corner of the window).
- Go into the test settings.
- Disable Honorlock and save/exit the settings page.
- Then go back in to the test settings, re-enable Honorlock, and save.
- Now, you can check for errors on the Honorlock Exam List page, or use Student Preview mode to test the exam link.
